Hello, Hello!  We are Vivien & Jason Day and, together with our border collie Gaia, we'd like to welcome you to our little corner of the French Alps. 

We live in St. Jean d’Aulps, in the Vallée d’Aulps, just outside Morzine.  Our location is perfect because we are close to Montriond, Morzine and Les Gets, and are in the huge Portes du Soleil ski area.

 

What is our story?

We have both always loved the outdoors – as children, Jason got into rock climbing at school whilst Vivien was walking in the wild and woolly Shetland Islands with her parents and sister. Jason’s careers have spanned Geographical Information Systems and secondary school teaching before turning to the world of being an Outdoor Instructor in the UK.  Vivien did not realise that you could work in the wonderful outdoors until a chance charity challenge event to the Grand Canyon in 2006, and after that she started making plans to leave the corporate world of food manufacturing.

 

We met in 2007 over our love of the outdoors and had many adventures around the UK and Nepal before heading off in our camper truck around Europe and Norway.  We have also been lucky enough to take groups trekking in Nepal, India, Iceland, Morocco, Tanzania, Eswatini, Peru and Ecuador.

 

Whilst studying for our International Mountain Leaders award, we kept coming back to St. Jean d’Aulps as we met new friends and got to know the mountains here. In 2019 we decided that this was the new home that we had been looking for.  So here we are, living and working in France as micro-entrepreneurs using DaysAway Adventures as our shared marketing and business platform.  In winter we are snowshoeing almost every day in the season taking groups out to show them the wonderful mountains and beautiful places in the Portes du Soleil area. In the summer, we do a mix of guiding locally but mainly you can often find us freelancing for other companies and guiding their clients on large multi-day walks on the Tour du Mont Blanc, Haute Route or in the Bernese Oberland.
